Our Dogs

GPA/SCG transitions each greyhound from the track into a boarding kennel and then into a permanent home. Tan-Zar Kennels and The Golden Bone Pet Resort have donated a limited number of rooms for the greyhounds that enter our program. No matter how your greyhound is transitioned, it will make a "greyt" pet. Here are some of the things that we have discovered through using these boarding kennels.

1. At the boarding kennel, there are trained personnel to watch the greyhound recover after recent spay or neuter surgery or other medical treatments. They also assist with helping the greyhound adjust to a new diet.

2. Greyhounds move into a "forever" home when they are adopted, rather than transitioning from a foster home. The greyhound's first bonding experience will be in the home with the person(s) who adopted him/her.

3. Both of these boarding facilities are open, by appointment, Monday through Saturday, for visitations and adoptions. This provides prospective adopters with flexibility when choosing their greyhound.

The dogs below are available for adoption.  Please contact us at info@steelcitygreyhounds.org

"Kantan" is a 2 year old black male who was rescued from Wheeling in early October.  He never had an actual racing career as he was basically retired after some schooling when he could not keep up with the faster dogs.  He is a quiet and affectionate boy who seems to be intimidated by other dogs which means he will need to be the only dog in the home. He has a keen interest in cats, so we cannot home him with kitties. He will do well in a relaxed, environment with older children.  Kantan has been overlooked on numerous occasions for adoption and now all of his siblings are enjoying forever homes.  If you have room in your home and heart for this sweet hound, please consider giving a home where he has the affection he needs and deserves! He is residing at the Tan-Zar Kennels.

PLEASE NOTE:  You must complete an adoption application which has been screened and approved by SCG before making arrangements to visit the greyhounds!

Miles (Fivemilecrik) is a very happy and handsome, 2 year old male.  He is a beautiful blue fawn and is guaranteed to steal your heart with his enthusiasm and outgoing personality.  Miles will need a home without cats or small dogs.  He will be fine with other large dogs or as an only dog, as long as he has humans to play with!  Miles is currently residing at Tan-Zar Kennels in Wexford.

PLEASE NOTE:  You must complete an adoption application which has been screened and approved by SCG before making arrangements to visit the greyhounds!

Phantom is a sweet, sweet brindle and white gal who was born in November 2005!  She is petite and very regal looking.  She could use some gentle coaching when she walks on a lead until she gets the hang of it.  She seems fine with kitties and will be sure to turn heads when you are walking her down the street.  What a sweet girl she is!  She is one of the 300 plus dogs that were rescued from the Melbourne, Florida track in April.  She is residing at the Golden Bone Pet Resort.

Chantal is a happy girl who was born in March 2006.  She is one of the 300 plus dogs that were rescued from the Melbourne, Florida track in April.  She is a sweet dog who seems compatible with kitties.  She rides fine in a car and would love to learn about retired life in your home!  Please consider giving Chantal a forever home by adopting her.  She is residing at the Golden Bone Pet Resort.

Marcel was born in April 2006.  He is a handsome brindle male who has a nice friendly personality.  He walks good on lead, but needs a home with no kitties.  He loves hugs and is one of the 300 plus dogs that were rescued from the Melbourne, Florida track in April.  He is residing at the Golden Bone Pet Resort.

"Dynotech" is a large black male greyhound and is about 3 years old!  He came to us rather unsure of his new beginning, but recently, he has shown that he is more comfortable in his surroundings.  He enjoys treats and has frolicked with "Bob" on occasion when being walked.  He is very interested in kitties so he cannot live with them.  He has been retired since 2007 and we were just able to move him into our program in March.  If you have a space in your heart for this gentle giant, please let us know.  "Dynotech" is residing at the Golden Bone Pet Resort.
Lexus is a sweet, red and white senior greyhound who will be 7 years old in September.  As a retired mama, she can be assertive with other females since she has been used to assuming the leadership role.  She has a mild interest in cats, which means she will need supervision initially.  She will do well in a home with older children and male dogs only.  She is incredibly affectionate and will be most grateful for a forever home! The adoption fee for Lexus is waived due to her senior status. She is residing at Tan-Zar Kennels in Wexford.
